Earlier this week, the NFL shared that he is not very pleased with the performance of Thursday night games as air their NFL network and are looking to sell a new package of Thursday games to help increase the audience for football on one of the most competitive nights of television. While many expect the league to reach an agreement with a cable network, there has been interest expressed in new digital platforms such as Netflix and Google at the head of a new era of sports entertainment around the web . This is understandable, given that Netflix continues to push the limits of what we can expect from a broadcast network.

The added games offered to Thursday lineup will be removed on Sunday afternoon games shown on CBS and FOX and have no impact on the offers that the NFL always has with ESPN and NBC. The idea behind adding extra games for Thursday evening is to help solidify the Thursday night football nights in households across the country. A new agreement with a company like Netflix could open a huge range of possibilities not only for Netflix, but for watching sports in general. It was also reported that the Commissioner of the NFL Roger Goodell met with Google to discuss the possibility of streaming options as well. Although nothing has been agreed with any of these services, it will be very interesting to see how the idea is taking place in the coming months.

We would not be too excited about the possibility of the NFL on Netflix quite yet as they still miss the live streaming of capacity for a company like that. However, if an agreement is reached, it would be no exaggeration to see Netflix leap in the field of live broadcasting and sports, further strengthening the growth champion streaming services. As for now, it is all speculation though we have our fingers crossed that Netflix landed the agreement so that we can enjoy the NFL just as we do with many of our favorite shows and movies.
